beta testing for Fiveself

I'm doing some beta testing for a new e-commerce platform called Fiveself. It's being developed by a friend of a friend, and I've been looking for an affordable alternative to Etsy for a while, so I figured I'd give it a try. I set up my little shop today with only 3 items so far: some snips & snails garlands and it took me just a few hours. The rates are affordable and I really like the look of the shop, nice and clean. Anyhow my shop is live here, ready for customers. Let me know what you think!

hello there

Just wanted to drop in and say hello, to let you know I'm back in VT getting things straightened out for the new year. I made a list of goals and ideas for 2010 and posted it on the living room wall so I won't forget what's most important to me. I'm really excited for the possibilities this new year holds and no longer have that dragging sadness weighing me down. Here's a selection of things I plan to do in 2010:

* continue to cultivate my business
* find a new part time job
* practice cooking, baking, food preservation
* walk, bike, bus instead of driving
* finish my sister's quilt
* make art again
* begin to learn to play banjo
* milk a cow
* practice natural dyeing/experiment with shibori and resists
* build a cart/wagon for the summer art market
* visit Montreal with Ty- I've never been!
* write letters to good people
* read lots of good books- suggestions welcome!
* take myself less seriously more often
* paint night skies on the toes of my new boots

holidays and such

We've been having some really gray days lately and I think it's getting me down. I get pretty sad without plenty of sunshine, a common affliction in the Northeast I think. To cheer myself up, I've been making more garlands and taking things slowly day by day. I've also closed up my Etsy shops for the rest of 2009 so I can prep for this weekend's Holiday Artist Market and a trip to NY to visit family. I'm looking forward to being at my parents' home, falling back into my childhood bed, enjoying my Mom's cooking, going to seed a bit. Tyler and I are also looking forward to some serious pool tournaments (billiards) in their basement.

So, here's wishing you a very happy holiday season, full of love and warmth, and some much needed rest. Thanks to all my customers and friends who've supported my little business in its first year. I couldn't do it without you!

I'll see you in 2010, and in the meantime, feed the fishes! -------->

snips and snails garland

I've been obsessed with Sophie Cuvelier's Fabulous Garlands for months now, and finally decided to make my own version, crochet style. I finished this one today and I'm delighted with the results: bright, cheery, chock full of colors and textures, and totally handmade. I cut each circle out by hand, pierced a little hole in each, and connected everything with my crochet hook and some cotton thread. If you look closely, you'll see some packing bubbles, crocheted pods, vintage book page bits, and circles cut from a green shipping envelope. All of the little bits are cut from scraps and things destined to be forgotten. A fun treasure that measures in at 8ft/2.5m. You can snap it up here.

update: sold out! thank you! I will be making more of these, so don't fret.
